A few days ago I went grocery shopping via bicycle. It was still kind of cold, but I was sick of not riding my Townie. So I bundled up and rode to the store. I’ve been using these Cannondale panniers for a couple of years now for grocery shopping and to carry my stuff to work when I bike commute, so I thought I’d just quickly note what exactly I’m using. Until today I didn’t even know what these things were called.
The panniers I used are the Cannondale “Harvester” grocery bags.
Yes, they are expensive. Of course, all bike stuff is expensive. I have been very happy with them so far. After two years I’ve had no problem with them. That attach to my Townie rack pretty well, althought its tubing is a bit on the thick side. But they work fine on it. They work great on my mixte’s Topeak rack.
These bags fold up for easy storage. The inside has a little drawstring, so you can seal stuff up pretty well. I’ve never had any of my work clothes get dirty while transporting them in the bags. They seem to be pretty resistant to the elements. So I’m pretty happy with them.

I test rode an Electra Spaker 3i yesterday at lunch. I had never ridden a bike with the internal shifter hub, and was curious what it was like.
Well, it is damned cool. Very very very smooth shifting. It is really cool to shift gears and not hear the chain moving around. Just a simple “click”, and it is done. Very impressive.
The Sparker 3i is a very fun bike. Electra knows how to build a bike that puts a smile on your face. This bike is so rad — I’m about this close (gesturing “tiny” distance with fingers) to selling a couple of 5 bikes — the 2 that are seldom ridden — and buying one of these. I might prefer one of the standard cruisers though. I love the 24 x 3 bike tire on the Sparker, but I like the option of using various different tires. So the Fattie might be kind of limiting.
